Silence — 4th of May
Young people from De Noorderlingen Pre-training Theater from Groningen immerse themselves in the Second World War with theater maker Sara Scholten. Bouncing against the wall of the past, they search for stories of the present and take a look at the future. Together with young people from the International Transition Classes (ISK), they investigate the themes of silence, being young, and freedom with each other and the elderly. These encounters form the basis for the films SILENCE and YOUNG.FREEDOM.
The film series is made by various makers and young people from the collaboration Back2Back — starting after Remembrance Day on May 4 with this video and ending with Keti Koti on July 1. During the twelfth edition of Theater Na de Dam, almost 400 young people in 38 projects throughout the Netherlands are committed to providing meaning on 4 May 2021. Based on conversations between young and old about the war — in many different forms — something valuable is made and we not only reflect on the past but also on the complex times in which we now live.
